As your Ward 2 Board of Education member, I will work to:
- Close the achievement gap. Connecticut and other states have offices devoted to boosting the performance of disadvantaged kids. New York City boasts a "chief equality officer." We should take similar action.
- Push for high academic standards-and expectations.
- Ensure that tutoring firms and other service providers deliver as promised.
- Support innovation and diversity.
- Study and adopt the "best practices" of other states.
- Develop clear, timely "report cards" and other accountability measures.
- Create a system-wide discipline policy that buoys learning with in-school suspensions and counseling options.
- Improve special education.
- Address the needs of our multicultural student population.
- Be a strong listener and advocate for families and communities.
- Boost the quality of teaching, learning, and educational opportunities for all residents of the District of Columbia, regardless of age, income, race or country of origin.
- Build a world-class public education system in our city.
